Camshaft Grinding Machines
Andrews Products is in the 26th year of making after
market transmission gears for H/D motorcycles. We are the
original manufacturer of close ratio gears starting with
2.44 ratio first gears for big twin 4 speed gear boxes in
1972. The best quality gears and shafts for 4 or 5 speed
big twins or Sportsters continues to be Andrews.
Our commitment to the after market industry has been
underscored with seven figure investments in machinery
and manufacturing technology. Pictures of some of these
new machines are shown below. Our goal as a manufacturer
is to maintain the highest level of quality and service
for all of our customers.

The first step for some of our gears and
cams is on this Mazak Multiplex twin spindle machining
center. Cut steel slugs are automatically loaded from a
robot gantry and machined complete in one setup. Finished
parts are then automatically unloaded. This machine can
operate unattended for hours at a time.

After parts have been machined on lathes,
secondary operations such as keyways, drives slots and
lugs are cut with CNC vertical machining centers as with
this Matsuura automatic pallet changer. Final operations
on these machines include a self contained computerized
inspection of slots and lugs. Pallet changes take 5
seconds.

Additional steps in gear manufacture
require cutting teeth on this Mitsubishi GS15 CNC gear
shaper. A number of other computer controlled gear
machines are also used by Andrews Products to produce
gear teeth for a variety of transmission gears.

Our Toyoda GC32 CNC angle head grinder is
shown grinding a Sportster cam gear thrust face and
bearing diameter. CNC angle head machines can grind
multiple diameters in one setup and hold tolerances of
.0003 inches (.0076mm) on a diameter. Grinding is one of
the last steps in gear or cam manufacture.
